Joseph Balint

Joseph (Joe) George Balint, 53, of Jefferson Township New Jersey, passed away 09 April 2024, after a tenacious battle with cancer. He died at home peacefully with family close by. Joe was born on 24 April 1970. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Priscilla Balint (nee Thurner). He is survived by his wife Catherine, loving daughter Scarlette, and his siblings John, Anna (the late David), Paul, Clare and Peter. Uncle to Krystina, Samantha, Luke, Josh, Sophie, Manu, Alexandra, Sebastian, Isabella, Ileanne, and the late Katie and Sipiwe.

Joe was born and raised near Cleveland, Ohio and became a die hard Browns fan where the family was involved in the large Hungarian community, including Hungarian Scouts. Joe was a graduate of Lake Catholic High School in Mentor Ohio, and after a brief time at Case Western Reserve University, Joe proudly served his country with the 82nd Airborne Division between 1991 and 1995. Joe then moved on to attend The Ohio State University where he was president of the Engineer’s Council and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Joe was an exceptional husband and devoted father who passed on his contagious curiosity to his daughter through indoor activities like building numerous electronic kits, 3-D printing and CNC projects. He helped focus Scarlette’s inexhaustible energy towards martial arts, wrestling, map exploration and other learnings, and outdoor adventures with hiking, pond swimming, physics experiments and geocaching.

Joe was a true advocate for immersive learning with added passion in making things. Never one to shy away from investigating how things work and then trying to make things himself. Always looking for ways to improve. This was implemented within his broad work experiences, his hobbies such as photography, functional furniture and creating skull art in multiple skull mediums. He had a strong passion in sparking future engineers while leading numerous First Robotics teams and STEM engagements with any young mind open to be captured.

A visitation will be held Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Joe's memory be reserved for a fund to benefit his daughter Scarlette, which is currently being set up.
