John P. Roome

He was 76 years old. John was born in Paterson, NJ to John and Bertha (Post) Roome. He resided in Sparta for thirty years prior to Dover the last ten years. Mr. Roome served his country in the US Navy. He was a former founding member of the Totowa, Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. During his children’s’ early years he was actively involved in coaching girls softball in Sparta during the 70’s & 80’s.

He is predeceased by his first wife Catherine (1980), and survived by his spouse Hanna (Gajcy) Roome of Dover, a son; John P. Roome and wife Cheryl of Ft. Drum, NY, daughters; Jacqueline Turkington and husband Glenn of Hopatcong, Doreen Middleton and husband John of Sparta, Barbara Girton and husband Phil of Millville, Pa, and Lidia Zielinski and husband Derek of Boonton, Eleven Granddaughters and One Grandson.

Friends and family are invited Friday, 2~4 & 7~9 pm to Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street Sparta, NJ 07871. A funeral home service will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 AM with interment following in Sparta Cemetery.
