Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on November 9, 1943 to Peter and Anna (Wade) Conforti, Peter grew up in Elizabeth and Roselle Park with his numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. A graduate of Seton Hall Preparatory School and Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, P.A., Peter obtained his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Newark in 1968.
In 1971, Peter moved to Sussex County, founded a law firm in Sussex Borough, and pursued his goal of becoming a judge. For 10 years, he served as a municipal court judge in several municipalities throughout the County.
In 1983 at the age of 39, he was sworn in as a Superior Court Judge by Governor Kean and assigned to the Morris and Sussex Vicinage where he sat for the next 40 years. A notable and distinguished jurist, he served in the Law Division, Family Part, and Criminal Part of the Superior Court until his passing last week.
Peter married the love of his life, Cecelia Conforti, on April 15, 1988.They lived in Sparta and raised 6 children together. The couple enjoyed traveling extensively; frequently visiting family in Ireland, England, and Italy, and enjoying the beaches of St. Maarten, Palm Springs, CA, Naples, FL, and at their second home in Spring Lake, N.J.
Known as "The Judge” to many friends in his parish and community, Peter was a loving father to his 6 children and a doting grandfather to his 13 grandchildren. He never missed a game, performance or important event involving any of his grandchildren, taking a genuine interest in, and showing unwavering support for all their accomplishments. Peter was also a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and a connoisseur of the arts and Italian cuisine.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Anna Conforti. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Cecelia Conforti, and his children; Christine Angela Conforti; Carolann Bertolotti and husband Philip; Damian Peter Conforti and wife Nicole; James Kiff and wife Kelly; Catherine Kiff-Vozza, Kristian Vozza; and Terence Kiff. Peter also leaves behind 13 loving grandchildren; Francesca, Luca, and Nicholas Burrier; Natalia, Adriana, and Angelo Bertolotti; Mattea, Ella, and Charles Peter Conforti; Ava and Kristian Vozza, Jr.; and Callahan and James Kiff.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted under Goble Funeral Home 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. Visitation for Peter will be held Monday, March 27th from 3PM – 8PM at Our Lady of the Lake Church 294 S. Sparta Ave., Sparta, NJ 07871. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30AM Tuesday, March 28th at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Sparta. Interment will be held privately.
