He was born in Teaneck to Harry W, and Wanda Kociencki nee (Dabrowski), attended Leonia high school and graduated from Stevens Technology Institute with a degree in Engineering. He has resided in the Lake Mohawk section of Sparta since 1956. He was employed at Hoffman La Roche as Director of Engineering for 25 years retiring in 1995. Mr. Kociencki spearheaded the cogeneration plants for Hoffman La Roche in Nutley, Belvidere, NJ.
Mr. Kociencki has 60 plus years experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management and Conservation and was awarded the Energy manager of the year for the United States in 1986 and 1991. He was inducted into the AEE Hall of Fame, and has been a corporate member of the NJAEE for many years. He continued working as a private consultant after retirement. His leisure time was spent playing golf which he loved.
Mr. Kociencki was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake RC Church, past Grand Knight, Treasurer and Trustee of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Kociencki also received the Knight of the Year Award. He recently received the Vivere Christus Award on May 16, 2010 for outstanding service to the Diocese of Paterson for his work with Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sparta.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Kociencki nee (Hauenstein), a son; Robert and wife Barbara Kociencki, a two daughters; Carol and husband Fred Ramsey, and Kathy Matthes, and Five Grandchildren; Zachary Ramsey, Ryan, Brittany, and Taylor Matthes, and Mary Elizabeth Kociencki.
Friends and family are invited Thursday 2~4 & 7~9 pm to Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street, Sparta, NJ 07871. A 10:00 am funeral liturgy will be held Friday in McKenna Hall at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sparta, followed by interment in Sparta Cemetery.
