Harold Edward Johns, 81, of Sparta, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Newark, NJ, on September 19, 1943, Harold was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and a true friend to many.
A hardworking family man, Harold dedicated his life to providing for and supporting his loved ones. Through life’s most challenging moments, he remained a pillar of strength, ensuring his family was always cared for, protected, and guided with love. His resilience, determination, and unwavering devotion were the foundation upon which his family thrived.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife of forty-eight years, Ellen Johns; his children, Christine Pokrywa, Susanne Pace, David Johns, Laurie Heider, and Lisa Bell Troyer; sons-in-law, Craig Pokrywa, Gregory Pace, Timothy Heider, and Jeffery Troyer; his treasured grandchildren, Matthew Payne, Caitlyn Pokrywa, Connor Pokrywa, Colin Pokrywa, Michael Pace, David Johns, Alyssa Johns, Audra Ingram, Amber Rayano, Logan Bell, and Jesse Bell; and great grandchildren Bradlie Ingram and Kollyns Rayano. He was also the proud companion of his beloved wrinkly-faced, four-legged friend, Rosie.
He was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Ellen Johns; his brothers, Percy and Edward Johns; and his daughter, Tracey Payne.
Harold was a graduate of Union High School and a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Sparta, NJ. A classic car enthusiast and avid stamp collector, Harold found joy in restoring and admiring vintage automobiles. He also had a deep love for attending car shows, watching his grandchildren excel in their sports, and taking memorable family vacations to Disney World.
Harold’s presence was a source of warmth and encouragement to all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Harold’s life during visitation on Sunday, March 2nd, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Goble Funeral Home 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 3rd, at Our Lady of the Lake Church 294 S Sparta Ave, Sparta, NJ. Interment will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery & Mausoleum, 225 Ridgedale Ave, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
Harold’s love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
