Sparta- George Edward McDonough, 86, went home to the Lord on Monday, April 27, 2015 in Newton, NJ. George was born in Brooklyn, NY to George and Margaret (McAuliffe) McDonough. He has resided for the past 46 years in Sparta, living previously in Maspeth, Queens NY. George served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was employed for 39 years in data processing with American Cyanamid, retiring in 1991. When he retired, George volunteered in the kitchen at Knoll View for 18 years. He was very passionate about Sparta high school football, and had a ticket booth named for him. George loved fitness and was seen for many years around Sparta, walking with his Sheltie, Penny. Surviving him is his beloved wife,Marguerite (Lang) McDonough: two sons; Brian McDonough (Rita) of Upper Montclair, NJ, and George McDonough (Judy) of Sparta., and a daughter; Maureen McGrath (Michael) of Mount Olive, NJ. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Danielle Marcotulli (Brian), Zoe McDonough, Brendan, Collin, and Ryan McDonough, and Chris McGrath.
