Beloved father of two was a labor and pension benefits attorney, 59
Gary Alan Carlson, 59 of Sparta, N.J., passed away on December 5, 2011.
Gary was born to the late Carl Carlson and Alice Gary Carlson on March 3, 1952, in
Elizabeth, N.J. He grew up in Roselle, N.J. and graduated from Abraham Clark High
School in 1970. During that time, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Troop 331,
Roselle, N.J. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Delaware in 1974
with a B.A. in political science. He received a law degree from Rutgers University Law
School in 1980 and was an editor of the Rutgers Law Review.
Gary worked as a Counsel to Board Members at the National Labor Relations Board
(NLRB) in Washington, D.C. He later became a Trial Specialist at the NLRB office in
Newark, N.J.
At the time of his passing, Gary was an Associate Attorney for the law firm of Kroll,
Heineman and Carton in Islin, N.J. He specialized in ERISA benefit and pension plans
(Teamsters, Carpenters, IBEW, and Laborers Unions).
He was treasurer for Cub Scout Troop, Pack 150, Sparta, N.J.
Gary was the devoted husband of Renee Crain for 17 years, and beloved father to
Linda and Maxwell Carlson. Along with his wife and children, Gary is survived by a
brother Mark Carlson (Susan) and two brother-in-laws, Renzle Crain, Jr. (Gertrude) of
Billings Mt. and Arron Crain of Kenosha, Wi. He is also survived by loving nieces and
nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St.
Mary's Episcopal Church, 85 Conestoga Trail, in Sparta, N.J.
