The Merlino family will be forever in our hearts. Our memories include Twin Boro Bear football being coached by Gene, lacrosse, our love of English Mastiffs, Lake Sacandaga and staying at their beautiful home. Always kind, generous and accepting of all. The most wonderful family. We look back on those years and smile. We are grateful to have known Gene, Kelly, Max, Louis and Ryder. Thank you for making our lives better. Thinking of all of you today.

I am very sorry to hear of Genes Passing ,
Although i only knew him a short time ,
I felt that we were lifelong friends. He shared himself with me through stories of his family and life experiences. Knowing i had children in the Navy he affectionately would refer to me as the squid. He always spoke of his wife and children and how much they meant to him.  The world is a lesser place without Gene.

While our children were growing up in  Lincoln Park  we got to spend some time with your really lovely family because of cheerleading and football.

It was so nice to reconnect with Gene when we were both raising our children in Mendham. It was an unexpected surprise running into him and a wonderful chapter sharing time during Twin Boro Bears and Chester Mendham Lax. Kelly, it was so nice meeting you and the boys through him as well. He will  never know how much impact he had on my boys as a coach and a role model but we want you to know. May you all find peace in his peace now. Xoxo

Gene was a wonderful guy who lived life to the fullest . I enjoyed his stories he told of his children and weekend shenanigans when I served him lunch . Always a smiling gentleman .. Rest easy my friend .

Loved Gene’s energy & passion for teaching young boys. Together we coached Twin Boro Bears Flag team. Gene had a great smile. He made it fun.

Dear Kelly and Family, 

The only reason I know the name of the “Great Lake Sacandaga” is because of Gene and Kelly opening their home to us.  I remember that first day we were there, Gene took us on a tour of the lake.  A lake that has become to mean so much to my family and I. 

Years later, as we were nearly neighbors up there, I remember early morning’s Gene would arrive at my place with his ski boat. He would honk the boat horn, and I would run down to meet him on the edge of the water.  We would ski, wakeboard, laugh, and talk about our shared family history.  

I got to know my cousin Gene over those early morning water ski trips. Gene was one of the nicest people I have ever known.  He was hard working, generous, kind, and he loved his family above all.  I’ll always remember his smile as he took some great turns behind the boat.   Turns, that I cannot replicate still to this day.  He was of the best skiers on the water. 

We miss you cousin.  We miss those amazingly memorable mornings.  We miss grilling on the porch. Endless memories with my family, started with you, and that very first tour of our shared lake. We know that you are smiling down on us.

Our hearts are saddened of this news of Gene's passing.  We will always remember how positive and kind he was to our son Kyle and to our family while we all were involved in the Twin Boro bears football program.  He was always full of energy and you could tell he loved his family.  Sending Kelly and the boys our sincerest condolences.

My sympathies to the Merlino family.  A great family to grow up around, you were a big part of Lincoln Park. I am very sorry to hear of this loss of Eugene. May God give you some peace at this tragic time.
