Elaine was born on November 4, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey to her parents Helen and Eugene Kuebler. Elaine attended Cleveland Junior High and Westside High School, both in Newark, NJ. She married Sheldon Smith on February 6, 1960. Together they worked hard to give their family everything that they themselves never had, while still always being available for their family, having fun, and making it all seem so easy.
Elaine was a strong, resilient, fun, and loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She always put others before herself and gave endlessly to all, including friends, family, and strangers. She often made room in her home for others who needed a place to stay. Elaine had her own special and unique way of making others laugh at everything, including themselves. She had no inhibitions, so nothing was off limits in this endeavor! She was completely open and honest, and you’d never have to wonder about her true intentions because she had a heart of gold.
To help support her family, for many years Elaine worked as a cashier at supermarkets and a department store, where, during holidays or any special occasions, she lifted the spirits of customers by baking special treats and singing seasonal songs, sometimes in holiday garb. Similarly, when playing bingo, her favorite past-time, she'd entertain the crowd with props, slogans, and noisemakers. Elaine made everywhere she went more fun.
Left to honor Elaine and remember her are her husband Sheldon, her sister Joan Burbella, and three of her four children: Timothy (Cindy) Smith, Alan Smith, and Nina (Mark) Corona; six grandchildren: Jerry Rotunno, Tim Smith, Dillon (Ali) Smith, Ethan Smith, Mia Corona, Jenna (Jeremy) Bridges; three great-grandchildren: Ryder and Gunner Bridges, and Charlie Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter Elaine Theresa Smith (7/17/22), her parents, and her brother Eugene. Elaine will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted under Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Sparta, NJ 07871. A celebration of life for family members will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2023, 12:00PM at her grandson's restaurant, The Committed Pig, in Manasquan, New Jersey.
