David was a man of unwavering family values, a gifted storyteller with a sharp sense of humor, and a dependable presence in the lives of those who knew him.
Before his retirement in 2008, David had worked his way up the ladder to become the head of Roxbury Township Water Department, where he worked tirelessly to build a life for his family. During his tenure with the water department, he achieved a milestone no one in his family had before—earning a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, a testament to his perseverance and commitment to personal growth.
Though his career was important, his greatest pride and joy was his family. As an attentive father and devoted husband, he provided a life filled with love, wisdom, and laughter. He was always willing to lend a hand, offering his time and support whenever it was needed. His incredible gift of storytelling made every gathering brighter, and those stories will continue to be told for generations.
David was a passionate fan of football, and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Giants or the Raiders. He also found great joy in watching NASCAR and going to Kittatinny High School to support the wrestling team. When the weather allowed, you could find David outside fishing or camping, and when he wasn’t doing any of those things he was probably at home in his favorite chair watching HBO.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Bonnie, David is survived by his daughter, Heather Gessling and her husband Christopher; his grandson, Christopher Gessling; and his many nieces and nephews.
His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted under Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main St, Sparta, NJ. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Pequest Union Cemetery 36 Cemetery Rd, Great Meadows, NJ 07838.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association in his memory.
