Michael attended Olean High School before serving in the US Army, Infantry Division, during WWII. He fought in the Battle of Normandy and the Battle for Brest, and was awarded the Purple Heart medal. He also served as US Army Military Police in Paris, where he met his wife, Antoinette Idalie Guenant. They were married in Olean, NY April 10, 1950. Returning from Europe, he was employed at Kabar Cutlery in Olean, NY, and later at Case Cutlery in Bradford, PA. He moved to Boiling Spring Lakes, NC in 1990 following retirement.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Delores Seeley. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Antoinette; a brother, John Furey of San Diego, CA; three daughters, Christine (Jerome) Sniatecki of Buffalo, NY, Lynn Furey of Southport, NC, and Denise (Donald) Lengvarsky of Allegany, NY; four grandchildren, Jerome (Arwen) Sniatecki of Newport, PA, Marianne Sniatecki of Buffalo, NY, Alicia (Benjamin) Christian of Valdosta, GA, Beth (Jared) Kausner of Allegany, NY; and two great-grand-children, Donald and Maeve Christian.
Michael was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a great baseball player and proud fan of the NY Yankees. He loved his family dearly and will be deeply missed.
A funeral service for Michael will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Peacock-Newnam & White chapel. Burial will follow at Cape Fear Memorial Park.
