Mary was born March 26, 1948 in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Dr. Joseph Danyliw and Halina Labecki Danyliw.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Kenneth Updike; three sons, Robert J. McCaffery, Jr. and partner Danielle Rappaport, Brendan McCaffery, and Bryan McCaffery; a step-son, Stephen Updike and partner Stacey McManus; a step-daughter, Kathryn Updike; four brothers, Joseph Danyliw, Jr. and wife Melanie, Dr. Thomas Danyliw and wife Alyson, Peter Danyliw and wife Holly, and Timothy Danyliw; three sisters, Dorothy DePietro and husband Bob, Margaret Schock and husband Reuben; and Ann Westberg and husband John; two grandchildren, Liam Updike and MaKenna Updike; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful dog Montana. She was preceded in death by a son, Ryan McCaffery.
A celebration of her life will be held at noon on Friday, July 7, 2023 in the Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel. The family will have visitation from 10:00 am to noon at the funeral home. A reception will follow the service. A private inurnment will be held at Cape Fear Memorial Park.
