She was born January 16, 1921 in Magnolia, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Rev. A. L. Brown and Eva Williams Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Homer G. McKeithan, Sr., granddaughter Gray McKeithan, brother Arthur Brown, and sister Martha Brown Willis.
Survivors include two sons, Rev. Homer G. McKeithan, Jr. (Deenie) of Greenville, NC, and Bobby Leon McKeithan (Diane) of Southport; two grandsons, Robbie McKeithan of Wilmington and Brett (Theresa) McKeithan of Southport; two granddaughters, Sarai McKeithan Kerr (LeRoy) of Greenville and Jessica McKeithan Winters (Dave) of Hampstead; three great-grandsons, Jordan McKeithan and fiance Taylor Slowik of Greenville, Liam Winters and Levi Winters of Hampstead; two great-granddaughters, Katyanna Kerr of Greenville and Sidney McKeithan of Southport; and one great-great grandson, Titus Kerr of Greenville; two sisters, Edith Brown Dail of Myrtle Beach, SC and Myrtle Brown Watson of Wilmington; two brothers, Harvey Brown of Charlotte and Bob Brown of Fayetteville; numerous nieces and nephews.
She moved to Southport in 1937 when her father was called as Pastor of Southport Baptist Church. She was a member of Southport Baptist Church for 80 years, sang in the choir for over 50 years and taught Sunday School for more than 70 years. She retired from Dosher Memorial Hospital in 2002 after 22 years of service. “Miss Lulu” loved rocking on the front porch with her family and many friends who stopped by to visit.
A celebration of her life will be held at Southport Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 28 at 3 p.m. with the Reverend Foyd Bennett officiating. Graveside services will follow at Northwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Southport Baptist Church and other times the family will be at “Miss Lulu's” home in Southport.
Pallbearers will be Hank Mangum, Daniel Dixon, Marc Spencer, Donald Dixon, Charles (Son) McKeithan, and Billy McKay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
