Leon Arnold "Woodchuck" Smith

Mr. Smith was born August 4, 1943, son of the late Leon Thomas Smith and Frances Spivey Smith. He was a veteran of the US Army National Guard and had worked in construction his whole life. He owned and operated Woodchuck Construction. He loved fishing, traveling in his RV, being on the Southport Waterfront, and spending time with his family. Leon will be remembered for his generous heart and for helping anyone in need.

Survivors include his son, Todd Lawrence Smith; a daughter, Kali Smith; a grandson, Ronald Todd Smith; two brothers, Thomas Smith and Johnny Smith; a sister, Sandra Cochran; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Julia Smith Daniel and Frances "Tinkie" Smith.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Northwood Cemetery in Southport with Reverend Charles A. Drew officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the home of Janet Elliott, 3760 Heron Circle in Southport.
