Larry was a longtime resident of St. James, North Carolina, until having a stroke in 2016, where he moved to independent living and then transitioned to assisted living at Coastal Pointe in Shallotte, NC.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Pamela Dadetto and husband Wayne of St. James, NC; daughter, Debbie Arrufat of Fayetteville, NC; son, Jeffrey Cleary and wife Tina of Fayetteville, NC. Larry had seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Cleary and a son, Larry Dee Cleary, Jr.
Most old timers in St. James, remember Larry as the 50/50 guy for the weekly MGA golf events for over 12 years. Retired from the US Army, which included two combat tours in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division, "Big Red One". He was a member of American Legion Post 543 - St. James and VFW Post 10226 - Oak Island.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Cape Fear Memorial Park in Southport. The family will have visitation from 12:00 to 2:30 pm at Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service.
