Juanita Bowling Drew - Jones, age 67 of Southport, NC passed away peacefully after a sudden illness, surrounded by her loving family at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Juanita was born on June 29, 1957 at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport, NC and was the daughter of William Jesse Bowling and Julia Faye Brown Bowling of Southport. She attended Southport High School, but had to drop out due to a “little surprise.” She later completed her GED, attended Cape Fear Community College, becoming a licensed cosmetologist. She worked as a hairdresser for some time mastering the profession with many clients in Brunswick County. Juanita expanded her education while working, being a single mother, and earned an associate’s degree in chemistry and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her nursing career took her to Dosher Hospital, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, several years of work in Lynchburg, Virginia and then many private duty patients and home health care work.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping and fashion. Juanita was a “BOUJEE DIVA” that was always concerned about style, her hair, and fashion. She was a former member of Southport Rescue Squad and loved helping others. She was very devoted to caring for her mother during the final years of her life. Juanita was a member of the Midway Apostolic Church and has currently been attending the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her only child, Charles Anthony Drew of Southport, NC; Five grandchildren, Brandon Thomas Jones (Trish) of Lake Lure, NC, Ashley Britt Faulkner (Adam) of Erwin, NC, Kayla Drew Creech (Jordan) of Bolivia, NC, Charles Madison Drew (Abigail) of Southport, NC, Hannah Drew Davis (Justin) of Southport, NC. Four great-grandchildren, Alexandria and George Faulkner, Avery Layne Creech, and Charles Lincoln Drew. A brother, Wade Bowling of Castle Hayne, NC, sister, Sallie Bowling Prince of Leland, NC, a niece, Sloane Prince (Maddie) of High Point, NC, a sister-in-law, Mary Cordrey of Star, NC, a special granddaughter Brooklyn Dixon of Southport, NC and a host of other family, cousins, and friends.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Thomas Glenn Bowling; husband Jerry Thomas Jones Sr. and son, Jerry Thomas Jones Jr.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, 3:00 pm at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, 5420 Ocean Hwy SE, Bolivia, NC with Pastor Charles A. Drew officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the church.
Pallbearers will be Madison Drew, Justin Davis, Jordan Creech, Ronnie Drew, Sloane Prince, Shawn Waddell. The Southport Fire Department members will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Burial will follow in the Bowling Family Cemetery, Bolivia, NC.
The family is receiving friends at 112 Park Avenue Southport, NC 28461. Memorial can be made to the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church Building Fund, PO Box 10512 Southport, NC 28461.
