Jerome "Jerry" Arnold Power

Jerry was born on April 9, 1927 in Freehold, NJ to James and Genevieve Whelan Power. After spending his youth in Freehold and graduating from high school, Jerry joined the Navy in March 1945 and served in the Quartermaster Unit for Admiral Barbee on the U.S. South Carolina.

Using the GI Bill, Jerry earned his BS in Business Accounting from Seton Hall University in 1951. In 1952 he was employed by Johnson & Johnson, working directly for Seward Johnson as a Jr. Accountant during the day while earning his Masters in Finance at night from NYU. Jerry continued his work with J&J, moved on to Stewart, Watts and Bolong as an Auditor and New England Laminates as the Controller, all while attending and graduating from NYU with his MBA and CPA certification.

In 1964 Jerry opened his own CPA practice in Freehold and served as Assistant Professor of Business at Monmouth College. Jerry maintained his practice until his retirement in 1988 when he and his wife Joan moved to Oxford, North Carolina. They lived there for 16 years before moving to St. James in 2006.

Jerry was a remarkable friend to many and will be truly missed.

Jerry is predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Joan D. Power; two brothers, Lawrence and James and a sister, Delores Wisneski; He is survived by son Tod Dean and wife Ruth of Clayton, NC and daughter Susan Capozzoli and husband Richard of Pequannock, NJ; Grandchildren, Christopher & Melissa Brause, Chris & Amber Capozzoli, Danny & Alaina Capozzoli, Corinne & Dan Falgares, Melissa & Channing Hill and Jeffrey & Heather Hogan; 10 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild and a Brother in Law A.C. (Chet) Wisneski of Trenton, NJ.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
