Jane Elizabeth Myers Kee was born in Studley, VA on April 25, 1932, the youngest child of the late Dr. Charles E. Myers and Olive Spicer Myers, and passed on to her forever home on March 30, 2025. She grew up on a farm, learning to drive a tractor at age 11 and having a goat named Lucy, before graduating from Huntington High School, in Huntington, WV. She attended Glenville State College in WV, receiving a degree in Art & Home Economics, and married fellow student and her lifelong beloved Carlyle Kee the day after graduation, beginning 71 years of marriage together.
Jane and Carlyle spent most of their young married life in St. Albans, WV, where they raised five children. Jane briefly worked as an art teacher before becoming a stay at home mom and active volunteer in her children’s school, scouts, and church activities. When Carlyle retired, they relocated to Boiling Spring Lakes, NC, where they enjoyed years of beachcombing, family visits, and friends in the community and at church.
Quick-witted and playful, in her final weeks, she claimed she wasn’t in her second or third childhood, but her thirteenth! Her imagination and creativity shone throughout her life, from art to sewing to gardening to baking to reading, bringing light and beauty to all of us. Jane’s walk with God was evident in all aspects of her life, as she gave of her love and time often and generously. She was a faithful member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in St. Albans, WV and Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport, NC, where she was active in the women’s ministry and was the librarian for over 25 years.
A person of deep faith, one of her greatest gifts was joy. She found delight in little things (you can’t make cookies without oops-ing chocolate chips on the counter to eat first!), laughed easily, often had a mischievous twinkle in her eye, and was quick to smile. Her joy was the kind that was always drawing others in, making everyone feel like they belonged.
● Family and friends will feel her loss deeply, but rejoice in her homecoming with Jesus. In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her three sisters, Olive Wolters, Francis Schmetzer, and Mary Vitale, and is survived by her brother, William Myers. Jane is also survived by her husband, Carlyle B. Kee, her daughters, Cathy Danford (Steve) and Charlotte Alwine (Gary), and her sons, David Kee (Cassandra), Jerry Kee, and Alan Kee, granddaughters Rachel Benton (Jeremy), Laura Danford, Kate Danford, and Hope Alwine (Rick), and great-grandchildren, Eliza Jane, Logan, and Wyatt. Jane was also beloved by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 E. Nash St., Southport, NC 28461.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 2:00pm. Visitation will take place at Trinity UMC in Murrow Hall after the service. Please wear joyful clothes reflecting Jane’s joyful spirit.
