James William Ryan

James (Jim) William Ryan, age 77, of Southport, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022. Jim was born June 16, 1945 in the Bronx, New York to the late James B. Ryan and Kathleen (Murphy) Ryan.

In 1965, Jim joined the Army where he proudly served for 32 years before his retirement in 1997. Following the Army, Jim worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Allentown, PA for 26 years. In 2005, Jim and his wife built their dream home in Southport, NC where he joined the Wilmington Police Department in 2007 as a flight instructor until 2018.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gwen (O'Donnell) Ryan; his son, Colin Ryan; his daughter, Heather Conant and husband, Jim; and his son, Brian Ryan and wife, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Ashley, Kaitlyn, and Sarah; his sister, Joan Damiano and husband Richard; and his beloved dogs Brody and Bailey.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Ryan will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 15, 2022, in the Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Chapel with Deacon Rick Autry officiating.
