Mr. Smidlein was born February 23, 1930 in Yonkers, New York, son of the late Anthony and Madeline Crough Smidlein. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War, and later attended Iona College.
He was a regional sales manager for Chrysler Corporation, employed for thirty-eight years. Many of those years were spent transferring his family across the United States before settling in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Jack was a speed skater in his youth, he later took up running and completed seven marathons. After moving to Caswell Beach, North Carolina, twenty-eight years ago, he discovered golf and enjoyed the camaraderie of many friends.
Family was most important to him. He showed his support by trying to attend many of his children's and grandchildren's events, whether near or across the country. He offered guidance and encouragement but always with a sense of humor. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Joan Broscheid Smidlein; five children, Alan Smidlein and wife Kim, Pam Dunleavy and husband Jim, Steven Smidlein and wife Ellen, David Smidlein and wife Janette, and Susan Martin and husband Rob; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Father Alan Smidlein, MM.
