George Lee King Sr.

George will be dearly missed and remembered by his children, Jackie Miles (Tasha) of Leland, Erica Smith (Robert) of Leland, George (Slugger) L.King Jr. (Leigh) of Southport; eight grandchildren, Haley, Justin, Savanna, Kamryn, Greyson, Molly, Matthew, and Haleigh; four great-grandchildren, Luna, Artemis, Saylor Grace, Stetson; and many siblings.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Powell King; son Robert Miles and parents, Rufus Vonnie King and Ruby Blanton King.

George retired from DuPont where he worked as a mechanic for 28 years. He then worked for several more years for IPS and Securitas Security Services. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family and being “Papa” to all his grand babies. He also enjoyed watching sports, was an avid golfer and well known in the softball community. In 2021, George was inducted into the Wilmington Senior Softball Association Hall of Fame.

George was loved by many and will be remembered for his friendship, kind heart, sense of humor and pb & j circle sandwiches. He will forever live on in our memories.

A visitation will be held at from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Peacock - Newnam & White Funeral Home in Southport. A celebration of life will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at King Cemetery, Bluff Drive in Leland. The King family will receive family and friends at the King home following the burial.
