Hawk was born in London England, where he spent the first 10 years of his life. After moving to Wilmington, Delaware with his mother, he spent his boyhood working on his hunting and fishing skills every chance he got. As a teen he attended Tower Hill School, where he became an accomplished athlete and scholar. He cherished the lifelong friendships he made at this time until the day he passed. Hawk graduated from Cheshire Academy, and went on to study English Literature at Trinity College in Connecticut, where he was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. After graduation Hawk embarked on a short lived career tattooing horses in Chicago where his love of all things horse racing, gambling and collecting a true cast of characters began. Hawk returned to Delaware where he worked for The Equitable, before moving to National Publishers Service, which he then acquired and renamed Delivery Verification Services. Hawk sold this business at the age of 55 to retire and spend more time doing what he loved most... watching his children play sports, salt water fly fishing, hunting, writing books, and traveling with his wife Sally. An accomplished fly fisherman and expert marksman, Hawk relished the time spent honing his crafts in Key West, the Seychelles, the Bahamas, Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina. As his grandchildren arrived, "Grumpy" could be found stringing reels and patiently casting with his favorite five off the dock in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. These were his greatest joys. Possessed of a sharp wit and quick with a joke, Hawk would spend hours reminiscing with his colorful group of friends and family on growing up in Wilmington, working at the Brandywine Racetrack, and his beloved African safaris. His generosity, loyalty and kindness will be missed by many old friends and the unique cast of characters he collected along the way across the several continents he called home.
Hawk is survived by his wife Sally Pollard of Southport, NC, his daughter, Pigeon Graham and her husband Doug of Wallingford, PA, his son, Hamilton Pollard and his wife Erin of Carlsbad, CA, and his five grandchildren, Georgia, and Weiler Graham and Penelope, Charlotte and Keene Pollard.
