Born August 26, 1928 in Brunswick County, she was a daughter of Sam and Recie Lee Rees. She grew up in Southport and lived most of her life in northern Virginia. She retired from George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Eleanor is survived by her niece, Susan R. Bolduc (Johnny); her nephew, Tommy Rees (Mandy); her cousin, Robert D. Howard (B.J. Gorman); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Sam Rees, Jr; her niece, Dianne R. Carroll; and her nephew, Allen Rees.
Memorial contributions may be made, in Eleanor’s name, to BrightFocus Foundation, Gentiva Hospice, Southport Baptist Church Missions Committee.
The family would like to recognize Eleanor’s long-term caregivers, April Jennings and Shannon Stevens, and the staff of TerraBella and Gentiva Hospice.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Northwood Cemetery in Southport.
