Mr. John Douglas Brown, affectionately known as “Dougie,” of Southport went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 30, 2015. He was born on October 25, 1938 to the late Weston Thomas & Bessie Harrelson Brown in Bolivia, NC.
Dougie was raised and taught wholesome morals and principles by his parents, and was a lifelong resident of Brunswick County. He was predeceased by his parents, and three brothers; Alfred Miller, JC Miller, & Dickie Brown, and two sisters; Edna Griffin and Julia Bowling.
Mr. Brown married the love of his life, Betty R. Williamson on October 01, 1960 and to that union was born two daughters; Mylinda Brown, & Gayle Brown (Rocky) Hall, and grandson John Eric Brown.
Mr. Brown was a mechanic by trade, and began his career working for Mr. Roy Swain at his service station on North Howe Street in Southport, later taking over that business and running it as a full service station called “Doug’s Gulf Station”. He also was employed at the Fish Factory with Standard Products and retired with 16 years of service with Waste Industries.
Dougie’s pride and joy was his # 66 Orange Race Car that him and his cousin Curt Beheler built and raced. He also loved junking, gardening, Farm all Tractors, orange slices, and had a passionate love for PEANUT BUTTER.
He was a founding and very faithful member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. He loved his church, his church family, and his pastor. Doug, had a deep love for prayer, and would spend hours a day praying for his family and loved ones that were sick. At church, Brother Doug was very involved in the service, he loved to worship the Lord.
Mr. Brown will lie in state at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church 5420 Ocean Hwy Winnabow, NC. Visitation will be held from 6pm- 8pm on Tuesday Evening, March 31, 2015. A home going celebration will be held on Wednesday, April 01, 2015 at 2pm at the church with Pastor Charles A. Drew officiating, with interment following at the Brown Family Cemetery.
