Dennis spent his childhood years growing up in Broad Run Farms, VA, where he had fond memories of fishing with his dog, Prince. Dennis attended Loudoun County High School, where he met the love of his life, Robbie. They were married on June 11, 1966, and went on to have three children. He served in the Navy during Vietnam. Dennis had a successful career in community banking and served as president of both Round Hill National Bank and Farmers and Merchants in Hamilton, VA. He was a member of Purcellville Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir, often singing solos. Dennis also served as president of the Purcellville Optimist Club. Dennis was a longtime member of Loudoun Golf and Country Club, where he enjoyed many golf games with buddies. If you were lucky, you may have caught him belting out Frank Sinatra's My Way at the club's karaoke nights, and he even had the ole blue eyes to match. Dennis certainly lived life his way. He lived large, was quick-witted, and his sense of humor never left him, even in his last days. In retirement, Dennis helped Robbie operate their cut flower farm business, Fields of Flowers , at their residence on Allder School Road outside of Purcellville. He was primarily assigned the mowing and weed eating but also enjoyed utilizing his creativity to produce beautiful bouquets and arrangements. Dennis and Robbie sold the family farm in 2013 and relocated to Southport, NC, for warmer weather and a slower pace of life. Dennis suffered from several health ailments during recent years due to diabetes.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, if you so desire, that you make a donation to either the local Southport, NC hospice that cared for him so wonderfully, or to the Friends of Grace church project in Lincoln, VA to restore the old, stone church. The addresses are as follows: Amedisys Hospice 1729 Southport Supply Rd., Suite A, Bolivia, NC 28422: Friends of Grace 801 S. 15th St., Purcellville, VA 20132 Attn: Garry Smith.
The family asks that you do a random act of kindness for someone in Dennis's honor, and to take a moment to read the Optimist Creed, as it was near and dear to Dennis's heart, and how he believed all should strive to live life.
A gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life will be planned for Spring 2024 in Loudoun County, VA.
