Darlene was born February 27, 1940 in Caldwell, Idaho and lived most of her life there as well as in Oklahoma. She moved to Southport in June 2017 to enjoy the beach and be near dear friends. She was a kindhearted, yet spunky, quick-witted lady who loved serving others. She truly had a servant’s heart. While living in her Southport neighborhood, Darlene enjoyed going for long walks with friends and the love of her life, “Maggie”, her precious canine companion. Being near the beach gave her the opportunity to enjoy walking along the shore and picking up sea shells. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting to which she always made keepsakes to give to others. She will be truly missed by not only her family, but by friends who became family. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were several brothers, a sister, and granddaughter.
Survivors include her sons, Kevin Miller and soulmate, Terri Wood of California, and John Miller of Georgia; her daughter, Lori Ann Synkelma of Oregon; three sisters; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; her special angels and dear friends, Tom and Kelly Hardwick of Southport; and her constant loving canine Maggie.
A Celebration Luncheon will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport.
Because of Darlene’s love of animals, it was her wish that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR), 3376 St. Charles Place SE, Southport, North Carolina 28461.
