I posted earlier and there was a typo, we all know he was a 'good looking man'. There, fixed it.  I couldn't help it,  I'm my father's daughter.  

I knew Dale as a funny guy with many interesting stories.  I always appreciated his directness and sense of humor.  Dale was a big guy with a big heart. I remember the last time we visited I tried to shake his hand as we were leaving and he said handshakes are for friends,  hugs are for family.  I am thankful for the warm welcoming Dale always gave me, his service to our country and for him raising the toughest woman I've ever met, his daughter. I see a part of Dale everyday through Laurie, they are truly two of a kind. Gone, but not forgotten. 

When my sister Karen married Dan along came Dale, and I knew when I met him he was very special, his love of life,his crooked grin, the sparkle of light in his eyes, if you were his friend you were his friend for life, if you were his enemy he had no time for you, Dale lived by his own terms and his own set of rules. I'm very grateful that Vickie came into his life and loved him the way he needed to be loved, that's very rare in this day and age. Fly high my friend I'll see you on the other side. 


I am one of Dale’s many cousins. I used to babysit those sweet boys. I never knew Dale as a grown-up but after reading his daughter’s loving tribute to him, I feel like I missed a great opportunity to know him as a man. My heart is heavy for his family as you all have lost a special blessing. May God fill your hearts with comfort and peace as you celebrate a life well-lived and loved.

My dad and I are one in the same,   from our looks, to our humor, our love of the ocean, all the fun vices that keep us tame (or sometimes not so much) and most of all our stubbornness and pride. We have always been the type to love fast, & love hard, though sometimes it's hard to tell.  He taught me to swim and snorkel by age 3, to read by age 4, he gave me my incredible work ethic and so much more. He never complained to get up and go to work to either P.T. with servicemen and women half his age,  teaching them how to be medical professionals, or instructing them how to serve our country, protect eachother and themselves. He was damn good at his job, every one of them. I never met anyone that didn't love him (except the women he didn't want, it's a curse to be that looking.) He worked so hard that after he retired he went to get his CDL, unfortunately it was just too much for his used and abused body to endure. He couldn't fulfill his dream to continue exploring the country and this broke both his and my heart. In his honor I went and got my CDL ,always dreaming I could take him on a road trip for once. I look forward to honoring his wishes by spreading  some of his remains in his homes ocean there in Oak Island, NC with his beloved Vicki,  his Mother,  my Grandmother and my Uncles, his brothers. I'll also take  him to Belize where he dived once.  I'm very thankful that we'll all gather there peacefully, altogether again to show him love as it's been so hard to these past years.  I'm most thankful for Vicki, his life's one true love, the only woman I would call his wife and respect as such forever. She's the only one that could tame the bear. Im so proud to have witnessed him loving someone that finally saw him for everything he is and she loved it all. He never stopped telling us how much he loved us,  I love you dad, forever.  I'll keep a part of you with me always and hope you'll join me over the road sometimes and "Stay between the lines."
