Mr. Baxter was born April 12, 1940 in Rockville, Maryland, son of the late Clifton and Hilda Baxter. He was raised in Burlington NC. But loved living on the coast and loved living in the mountains of Virginia. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during the Vietnam Era. He had owned the NAPA store in Southport, as well as the Ponderosa Salvage Yard and Just Brakes. For the past 40 years, he has donated faithfully to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Mr. Baxter was a member of Oak Island United Methodist Church. He was a kind and generous man who gave help when and where it was needed.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Donna Baxter; three children, Dallas King and wife Anita, Christine Britt and husband Benjamin, Allison Howerton and husband Charles; six grandchildren, Austin Britt, August Howerton, Brice Britt, Baylor Howerton, Christian Britt, and Cade Howerton; three great-grandchildren, Beckham Britt, Blakely Britt, and Bowen Britt; three sisters, Rosemary Lewis and husband Aaron, Irene Jenrette and husband Terry, and Annette Bareford and husband Gary; a brother, Bernard Baxter and wife Lynette; and his family friend, Carlton Price.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William E. Baxter, Edward E. Baxter, and George E. Baxter.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Ocean View United Methodist Church on Oak Island.
