Beverly was born on April 7, 1936, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Alfred Paul Travis and Grace Ivey (Wilson) Travis. She grew up alongside her brother John Paul Travis (late Laverne) and both agree they had the best parents ever. Beverly’s life was defined by her love for her family and her devoted faith. She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Joseph Platt and Thomas Watkins, and is survived by her daughter, Alison Mathews, her son Scott Platt (whom she proudly claimed as the best children ever - a sentiment not disputed by her children), former sons-in-law Tom Mathews (Cathy) and Mark Richardson and her brother-in-law Paxton Watkins (Shay). Beverly and Shay developed an unwavering bond to last a lifetime. Her grandchildren, Lyndsay Brisson (Jonathan) and Travis Mathews (Sarah), were sources of immeasurable joy to her. Lyndsay and Travis have blessed her with great-grandchildren: Nora, Emersen, Jordy, Brady, and Cayden.
She graduated from Piedmont Nursing School and embarked on a rewarding career in nursing for two decades before transitioning to Duke Energy as a customer service representative for another 18 years. She was known for her compassion, empathy and dedication, volunteering at Hospice for 20 years and serving in Stephen Ministry at Weddington Methodist Church. An artist at heart, Beverly found immense joy in painting and arts & crafts. She nurtured her creativity throughout her life, inspired by her parents who she cherished for fostering her imagination from an early age. An adventurous spirit led her on multiple cross-country road trips in her beloved '57 Chevy with her husband Tom, and she enjoyed exploring England, Scotland, and Ireland with various family members. Her positive outlook on life, infectious smile, and willingness to help others endeared her to all who knew her. Beverly cherished her lifelong friendship with Gail Scott and loved her cousin Elizabeth Whitton deeply.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Lisa Palma (Joe) and daughter Nicole, Kim Scott (Steve), Teresa Adams and daughters Caitlyn and Ashley and their children Matthew, Sam and Olivia, Victoria McDonough (Kieran), Brenda Dail, John Platt (deceased) and sons John Platt (Faiza) and Michael Platt (Emily) and their children Emerus and Lincoln, Jay Travis (Julie) and their sons Jack, Joey, and Jared, and Paul Travis (partner Tammy).
