‘Ginny’ as she was known to her family and friends, was born on August 24, 1935 in Taunton, Mass., to parents Irene Iwanicki and Thomas Shaw. Virginia was raised in Meriden, CT where she graduated from Meriden High School.
Virginia is survived by her husband Robert Bittner and her three children, daughters Karen Lee (Colasanti) and her husband Craig Limmer, Melinda Sue Colasanti, and Virginia’s son, Richard Alan Colasanti.
Virginia was employed by Chandler Evans, a Colt firearms subsidiary in West Hartford, and Bozzuto’s of Cheshire. Virginia had several jobs throughout her life, however the most important was raising her children. As a single mom, Virginia provided for her children as best she could. Virginia’s home was always open to the neighborhood children, some of whom her children made lifelong friends with. Ginny will be remembered as a generous, caring woman to all who knew her. Her loving smile was bestowed on most everyone she met.
Some of Virginia’s greatest joys were spent with her grandchildren, partaking in their accomplishments and showering them with her love. Ginny was a proud grandmother and was affectionately known as Gma. She is survived by her grandson Kristopher Limmer and his wife Sara, granddaughters Kasandra and Bryana Colasanti, and by her great-grandchildren Colton, Rowan and Natalie Limmer.
She was predeceased by her beloved grandson Eric Limmer.
