Susan B. Stein, 82, of Kensington, widow of the late Robert E. Stein, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 in the comfort of her own home. Susan was born on November 11, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Nobel and Eleanor (Zimmermann) Benson. Upon graduation from Central Connecticut State College, Sue worked as an elementary school teacher at Elizabeth Green Elementary School in Newington, where she met her future husband. Once her daughter, Laura, was born, Sue took great pleasure in being a stay-at-home mother, homemaker, and later assisting with her two cherished grandchildren, Paul and Katie. She found true joy in being a part of their lives. Sue loved to sew and cheer for her beloved UConn Basketball teams. Being that she was “blessed” with the gift of gab, Sue’s favorite pastime was talking with her friends and family on the phone. Sue was one of the kindest people you could meet and she will be dearly missed. Susan is survived by her daughter, Laura Doherty and her husband George of Southington and her two grandchildren, Paul and Katie Doherty. In addition, she is survived by a sister-in-law Marguerite Benson, niece Kristin Losee (Jenner) and grandniece Claire, brother-in-law Richard Stein and his wife Linda, and cousin-in-law Janet Edmond. She was predeceased by her brother, Nobel Benson. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Lawrence Giove and the team at Starling Physicians, as well as the staff at Hartford Healthcare Independence at Home, in particular caregivers Sallie and Tina. A service for Susan will be held on Friday, December 15 at 12:30pm at Dellavecchia Funeral Home in Southington, with private burial for the family immediately following in the South Burying Ground in Kensington. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 14 from 4pm to 7pm at Dellavecchia Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Susan’s memory may be made to either the Susan G.
