Simon R. Elsinger, 75, of Southington, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family on November 19, 2013 at Walnut Hill Care Center in New Britain. He was the husband of Charlotte (Abele) Elsinger, and were married for over 50 years.
Simon was born on November 6, 1938 in Kelheim Bavaria, Germany. He graduated from the Christiani Institute in Germany in 1961 as a manufacturing engineer and tool and die maker. He proudly became a United States citizen in 1970.
Simon was the son of the late Simon and Elisabeth (Wolf) Elsinger. He had been employed by Hygrade Precision Technology Inc. as a manufacturing engineer, tool and die maker and plant manager. He retired after 30 years of service. Simon was an avid outdoorsman, loving nature and his daily walk. His true love was his wife Charlotte, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Simon J. Elsinger of Suffield; a daughter Dr. Elisabeth Elsinger- Magill and husband John of Greenwich; five grandchildren, Eric and Nicole Elsinger and Jack, Lucas and Sophie Magill; a brother Josef Elsinger and wife Christl of Germany. He is also survived by nieces and cousins in the USA and Germany. He was predeceased by a sister Anneliese Elsinger. Simon?s family would like to thank the staff at Walnut Hill Care Center for all the compassion, attention and encouragement given to Simon and his family while he was in their care.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Thomas Church 99 Bristol St., Southington for a mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday (TODAY) from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the CT Audubon Society, 1361 Main St., Glastonbury, CT 06033 or a charity of one?s choice.
