Sharon DellaVecchia, 77, of Plantsville, beloved wife of Donald DellaVecchia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain Campus surrounded by her daughters. Sharon was born in Winterport, Maine and was the daughter of the late Grant and Gloria (Collins) Leivdal.
She had been employed as a waitress in several area restaurants and landed in the role of supervisor at Quality Coil in Bristol, CT. Before her illness, Sharon loved to take spontaneous day trips with her husband, Donald. They would hop in the truck and head up north to scavenge for antiques or other treasures. Inevitably they would most always end up at the shoreline finding a lobster shack or hot dog stand. She had a love of simple things and nature. Sharon had the most beautiful handwriting and admired calligraphy. She could doodle for days. She drew the best Santa Clause. She also loved to do word search puzzles and loved watching her mystery shows. However, it was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren that would brighten her day. Sharon’s grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She was so proud of each and every single one of them. Becoming a great-grandmother was a highlight in Sharon's life. Getting visits from Kolton was the best part of her days and brought much joy and happiness to her. Sharon was anxiously awaiting her second great-grandson in May. She was also an avid animal lover. There was always an animal in her life and by her side. Junior, her Yorkshire Terrier, was treated like the son she never had and he protected her fiercely. It brought her much joy to watch or read anything about baby monkeys. Sharon had such a caring heart. There was always someone at her holiday table that didn’t have a place to go. Her generosity and empathy for others will always be remembered and cherished.
Besides Donald, her husband of over 59 years, Sharon is survived by her three daughters; Sheri DellaVecchia of Southington, Kimberly DellaVecchia of Plainville and Kristen DellaVecchia of Southington. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Christina DellaVecchia, Anthony DellaVecchia, Matthew O’Connor & his wife Emily, Shannon O’Connor and Megan Hubbell and by her great-grandson, Kolton Zale O’Dell. Sharon also leaves behind her life-long best friends, MaryAnn Testa and Patricia DiBenedetto, who meant so much to her. Sharon’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain for the outstanding care & compassion that was extended to their mother during her stay.
A graveside service for Sharon will be held on Thursday, May 4th at 1:00 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sharon’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
