Robert W. Cusano, 83, a lifelong resident of Southington, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023 surrounded by his family. For over 60 years Bob was the husband of his beloved wife Lucille (Verderame) Cusano.
Besides his wife, Bob is survived by two daughters, Andrea and Roberta Cusano both of Southington, two grandsons, Grayson and Luke Sklba, brother Joseph Cusano, sister Valerie Wright many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Waddell.
Born Sept. 12, 1940 in New Britain, the son of the late Anthony and Sophie (Grabelski) Cusano, he was a proud resident of Southington and served his community all his life. He was an engineer for 25 years employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and other aircraft and missile manufacturers. He also owned Hallmark Frame & Art in downtown Southington. Bob was a graduate of Southington High School Class of 1960, Central CT State University, MIT, University of Hartford-Hillyer College, the CT State Institute of Technology, New York Institute of Photography: Graduate cum laude. He served in the 103rd Fighter Group CT Air National Guard. He was a Community Advisory Committee member and Fine Arts Advisory Committee member for Tunxis Community College. Bob had been in service to the town of Southington for over 38 years in elected, appointed and volunteer positions. He was past president of the Southington Historical Society, former chairman and member of the Southington Public Library & Museum, on St. Dominic’s School Board Technology Committee, a member and past vice president of the Plantsville Preservation, a member of the Southington Town Council and chairperson, Planning and Zoning Commission and Secretary. Bob was also chairman of the Southington Historic District Committee, chairman of Downtown Revitalization Committee, Co-chairman of Board of Education Capital Funding committee. He served as President of the Central CT Tourism Commissioner, was on the Democratic Town Committee and a member for 40 years. He was director of Photography for Better Yet CT -30 television commercials, a coach and manager for the Northern Little League and vice president and founder of the Western Little League.
He was past president and member of UNICO, a former member of Sons of Italy, the American Legion, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Isabelle Council#2, the Elks Club, Eagles Club and Redman’s Tribal Council. He was a longtime parishioner of Saint Thomas Church.
The Funeral will be held Saturday October 14 at 8:15 A.M. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington to the Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St. Southington for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 A.M. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. There are no calling hours.
