Born in Waterbury on September 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Wilfred Nadeau and Laura (Pelletier) (Nadeau) Hamel. Richard graduated from Waterbury schools and worked as a tool and model maker for Scovill Manufacturing, Century Brass and Rostra Vernatherm in Bristol.
Richard was a lifelong resident of Waterbury and for the last several years had also resided in St. Petersburg, FL. He was a parishioner of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Church and St. Leo Church. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus in Watertown.
Richard loved nothing more than traveling and spending time with his family. He was a NASCAR fan and had a great appreciation for nice cars.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Richard leaves his daughter Laurie and her husband Doug Anton of Wolcott; his granddaughter Amy and her husband Lou Rossi of Allendale, NJ; and his three great grandchildren, Emerson, Sydney and Colin Rossi. He also leaves two sisters, Jeannette Ouellette of Watertown and Claudette and her husband Bill Radzunas of Oakville, and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sons Richard J. Nadeau and David A. Nadeau, his granddaughter Katie Anton, and his sister Lillian Choiniere.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 9th at 10:30 AM at Mary the Mother of the Church Parish- St. Leo The Great Church, 14 Bentwood Dr. in Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
