Raffaele Mastroianni, 92, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Aug. 3, 2021, at Southington Care Center, which was his home for the past 9 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Edda Mastroianni. Raffaele was born on Sept. 3, 1929 in Alvignanello, Italy to the late Pasquale Mastroianni and Vincenza Carbone.
Raffaele was a caring and devoted husband and father. He was employed as a drill press operator at Ideal Forge for 30 years. Raffaele was an avid gardener and a good cook. In Italy, he was a farmer and shepherd, which served as a foundation at his home in Southington. His garden was always plentiful and his chickens happy. Sundays were a day spent with the entire family, with his homemade meatballs and sauce for dinner.
He will be dearly missed by his son, Pasquale “Pat” Mastroianni and his wife Vira of Plantsville, grandchildren RJ Mastroianni and his wife Emily, Nicholas Mastroianni and Amanda Manion and her husband Benjamin. He is also survived by a brother, Giovanni Mastroianni and his wife Alfonsina, a sister Beatrice Derienzo and her husband Salvatore from Canada, a sister Teresa Cusano of Italy, and several nieces and nephews from Canada, Italy and the US.
In addition to his wife Edda, he is predeceased by his siblings Antonio, Stefano, Giuseppe, Antonietta, Palmina.
Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 9th, 2021 at 9am, with a Mass Of Christian Burial to held at 10 am at St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St. Southington. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday, Aug. 8th from 5-7 pm at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington.
