Her family will miss Mary Beth deeply but are grateful to have been with her when she passed away. They are also thankful for the care Mary Beth received from Dr. Adriana Coleska, Dr. Manya Newton and their colleagues in the emergency department at Yale New Haven Hospital, Saint Raphael campus, who worked tirelessly to assist Mary Beth in her final hours.
Mary Beth was a lifelong resident of New Haven, where she had many friends and was active in helping those less fortunate than her.
God was Mary Beth’s rock. She lived her life as a faithful Christian and was a devoted student of the Bible. Mary Beth received a Catholic education, starting with the former Saint Anthony’s School in New Haven in kindergarten before moving to Saint Stanislaus School in second grade. She graduated in the class of 1982 from the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall, and then attended the University of Connecticut.
Music was Mary Beth’s passion and she worked for a long time in sales at the former Strawberries Records & Tapes store in downtown New Haven. She also was a cook at Claire’s Corner Copia Restaurant and then in retail at the Atticus Bookstore. Her focus in the last several years of her life was in volunteer work and helping others.
Mary Beth struggled courageously for many years with personal challenges and worked tirelessly to be a good daughter, sister, and aunt to her niece Rebecca who she loved dearly.
In addition to her niece, Mary Beth is survived by her mother, Angela M. Monica of Southington; her sister and her husband, Julie Ann and Ken Byron of Berlin; her devoted nurses Kathy Goodison and Florence Brown, and many cherished friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday 11:30 am at St. Paul’s Church, 467 Alling St., Berlin. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be prior to the Mass from 9-10:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Beth’s memory be made to the food security non-profit group of their choice so that the less fortunate may be helped.
