Marlene (Martin) Moran, 88, of Southington, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2020 at home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of James Moran, whom she was married to for 46 years.
Marlene was born on May 6, 1932 in New Bedford, MA, to the late Frank and Mary (Page) Martin. She spent her career as a teacher beginning in the New Bedford school system and finishing at Cheshire High School. She cared very deeply about her students. She was thrilled and honored that they kept in touch with her for decades even after she was their teacher -- which speaks volumes about the impact she had on them. Marlene was also very proud to be a member and the president of the both the Cheshire Women’s Club and the Southington Women’s Club. Marlene, or “Mrs. Gates” as she’s been called, was very tech savvy and loved playing with computers and her iPhone. When she wasn’t toying with technology, she also enjoyed reading books and was an avid bridge player.
In addition to her husband James, Marlene is survived by her children Thomas Zipoli and his wife Jane of Oak Hill, VA, and her daughter Paula Zipoli of Beverly, MA; her grandchildren who she was very devoted to: Ben, Jon, and TJ; and her great-grandson Parker. She is predeceased by her brother Anthony Martin.
A graveside service will be held at a later date to be determined. The Della Vecchia Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.dellavecchiasouthington.com.
Should friends desire, donations can be made in her honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
