Karen Lee Grover

Karen Lee (Watterworth) Grover, 73, of New Britain, and a resident of Southington for over 60 years, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the HOCC-New Britain Campus after a lengthy illness. She was the beloved widow of the late Walter E. Grover who passed away in 2014. Karen was born in Waterbury, CT on March 9, 1950 and was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Emily (Spierto) Watterworth. She was a 1968 graduate of Southington High School and was a member of the Southington Historical Society. Karen, along with her late husband, served as chaplains of the Kiltonic Post #72 American Legion of Southington. She would also proudly serve as the district chaplain that covered most of Connecticut. The members of the legion were a special group of people who would become a second family to Karen and Walt. She had a deep passion and respect for our veterans and those who are in active service. A social butterfly, Karen loved to be around people and help others. This would be extended to the “feline” community as well. Over the past 30 years, she and her late husband would rescue and take care of many cats and animals who were shown care, love and safety. Karen is survived by her son, Walter Grover II of the Marion section of Southington and by her two brothers; Kenneth Watterworth and his wife Ann of Waterbury and Hank Watterworth of San Luis Obispo, CA and by her sister-in-law Judy Bogdanski and her husband Joseph of Marion. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Karen was pre-deceased by her brother Marshall Watterworth, sister Marguerite McEnerney and also by her step-brother John Watterworth. A Celebration of Life for Karen will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 12:00 PM at the American Legion Hall Kiltonic Post #72, 64 Main St. Southington, CT 06489.
