J.D. was born on May 29, 1947 in Roanoke, VA, to Dyer Vaughan Guynn and June (Cox) Guynn, and raised in Galax, VA, by her aunt Helen Gaye Cox and her grandmother Alice (Collins) Cox.
She graduated from the University of Tennessee and received a Masters in Education from the University of Virginia where she met Bob who was studying law.
Along with being a devoted and adored mother and wife, J.D. was an active member of St. James Parish, Junior League of Hartford, Golf Club of Avon, and Farmington Field Club. She especially loved playing tennis and paddle tennis with her longtime Field Club friends.
In addition to her husband Bob of 49 years, she is survived by her son Robert S. Stanek Jr., her daughter Elizabeth V. Stanek, her sister Frances (Guynn) Newman and her brother Charles L. Guynn. She also leaves behind her nieces Holbrook Newman, Elizabeth (Henry) Smyth and Cathleen (Chris) D’Orsi, her nephew Gregory (Maura) Butler and her brother-in-law William B. Butler. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law George C. Newman and her sister-in-law Barbara (Stanek) Butler.
J.D. was dearly loved by family and friends who will miss her immeasurably. Her loving kindness and gentle, gracious ways brought so much joy to everyone's life.
Special thanks to all the caregivers, Hartford Healthcare Hospice nurses and CNAs who affectionately cared for J.D. with respect and dignity.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9 at 10 AM at St. James Episcopal Church, 3 Mountain Road, Farmington. Calling hours will be on Thursday, December 8 from 4 - 7 PM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street Southington.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
