Joan Ann (Thompson) Volpe, 87, of Wappinger Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, at VITAS at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury surrounded by her husband and children. She was the beloved wife of Benjamin Volpe for 65 years.
Born on August 13, 1937, in Chester, PA, Joan was the daughter of the late Henry and Dora (Broughman) Thompson Sr. She grew up in a loving home and carried that spirit of care and creativity throughout her life.
A gifted homemaker and hostess, Joan found joy in the art of making a house a home. She could cook, bake, sew, quilt, knit and craft just about anything. She especially loved gathering loved ones together and sharing delicious food. Joan had many fond memories of camping trips, travelling to visit family in Delaware and Thanksgiving adventures with cousins.
Joan’s greatest pride and joy was her family. In addition to her devoted husband Benjamin, she is survived by her children; Daren Volpe Sr. and wife Donna of New Kent, VA; Janine Clarkson and husband Steven of Cheshire; and Kristen Bradley and husband Jeffrey of Plantsville. She was a loving grandmother to Tara Thompson and husband Tommy, Daren Volpe Jr. and wife Becca, Bryn Clarkson, Kyle Bradley, and Jillian Bradley, and a doting great-grandmother to Chloe, Reagan, and Grayson Volpe and Kinsley Thompson. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, close family friends and special neighbors who will remember her fondly.
She was predeceased by her three brothers, Henry Jr., Larry, and Robert, and two sisters, Lucille Malloy and Shirley Malloy.
Services for Joan will be held privately in New York with her family. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington has been entrusted with the arrangements.
