Born in Southington on Nov. 14, 1912 the daughter of the late Angelo and Louise (Mastrioanni) Coppola. She was a communicant of Mary Our Queen Church. Evelyn was employed at General Electric in Plainville for 23 years, retiring in 1975. After her retirement she remained active in the G.E. Women?s Club. She became involved with the Southington Tax Payers Association, voicing her opinion and giving advice at Town Meetings. As a member of the Calendar house, she helped organize many events; won the Trophy for the best float in the Bi-Centennial Parade and was a member of the Choral Group. At the YMCA Seniors, Evelyn served as president for two terms, was trip co-coordinator and traveled the U.S. And Europe with her senior friends. She received the YMCA Seniors Member of the Year Award in 1993. She was a long time member of the Rosary Society and the Altar Society at St. Thomas Church.
Evelyn leaves behind her beloved children, Frances Cano of NYC, Louise DelNegro and husband Michael of Avon, and David Cano and wife Becky of Southington. She doted on her 3 grandchildren, Tracey Fazzone Mencio and husband Stephen of Avon. Peter "Kip" Fazzone Jr. and wife Noelle of Simsbury and Wendi Cano Cappo and husband Daniel of Apollo, PA. Her 4 great grand-daughters, who were such a joy in her life, Chelsea and Morgan Mencio and Abby and Katelynn Fazzone. She also leaves to mourn her sisters, Marie Coppola Zimbardi of East Haven and Edith Coppola Pelosi and husband Liberato of Branford and a brother Alfred Coppola of Honolulu, HI
She was predeceased by brothers Albert Coppola and wife Violet and Joseph Coppola and wife Theresa, brother-in-law Albert Zimbardi and many dear friends. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who knew her as a woman with a warm heart, loving ways and a great spirit. To know her was to love her. Evelyn's children would like to thank the family members and dear friends who gave so freely of their time, love and support to their mother. These acts of kindness you showed her during this difficult time were greatly appreciated and will always be remembered. As was the wonderful care she received in the last stages of her illness by Hospice of Central Connecticut. Rest in peace Mom, we love you.
The Funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to Mary Our Queen Church at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
