Diana “Dee” Lynn Fabian, 75, of Plantsville, passed away on March 1, 2021 from complications from congestive heart failure. She was born on February 15, 1946 in New Britain to the late Evelyn and Roy E. Fabian. She graduated from New Britain High School, and received a Bachelor of Science from Central Connecticut State University.
Dee loved her family dearly and looked forward to each gathering. If anyone was missing, she insisted that they were included with a phone call, and would pass her phone around, cajoling everyone into conversation. She was an exceptionally intelligent woman with a mind for languages, and a passionate gift for teaching, which she did for several years. She had a consistent way of explaining things clearly, kindly, and with a smile (and, many times, a party!). Dee was a devout Christian and staunchly believed in helping others. She assisted thousands of people in need throughout her career with the Salvation Army in New Britain. Many Thanksgivings she could be found happily volunteering for Meals on Wheels. She was an intuitive actress and singer, and had the most soothing, beautiful singing voice that ranged from a deep tenor to a crisp soprano. Her favorite role was playing Stupefyin’ Jones in Li’l Abner. She sang often and it was always wonderful to hear her voice. She was an artistic seamstress, always looking for the next fashionable pattern, and, for a number of years, shared her gifts with JoAnn Fabrics of Berlin. In addition, she was a skilled, prolific needle artist who knitted and crocheted gorgeous gifts for her loved ones. She enjoyed researching and tracing the family’s history back through the generations, and was responsible for building bridges with distant relatives in Canada. Dee loved all animals, especially dogs, and made sure to share any posting she came across for animals in need in hopes that she or someone she knew might be able to help them. As a young girl she lived in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and this experience fostered her love for the Caribbean Islands, people, and music that she carried with her for the rest of her life.
Dee was a thoughtful and loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Dee is survived by her children: Steve Scarfo and his wife Liz of Tucson, AZ, and Roselynn Figueroa and her husband Charlie of New Rochelle, NY; her siblings: Roy (Ed) Fabian and his wife Marilyn of Manchester, CT, and Meris Rosol and her husband John of New Britain, CT. She is also survived by her two grandsons, who meant the world to her, Grayson and Austin Figueroa of New Rochelle, NY. Dee also has beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and additional extended family whom she adored. Dee doted on her dearly beloved furry companion, Rommey.
All services are private. The DellaVeccha Funeral Home in Southington has been entrusted with the arrangements. Dee’s family will have a celebration of life at a later date. For online condolences please visit www.dellavecchiasouthington.com
