Bertha Komor

Born on December 28, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Bertha (Gemsenjager) Kenneck. Bertha, along with her husband, ran the Pete Komor Plumbing Company for many years. Bertha lived through over a century of incredible changes, adapting to and marveling at the transformations of the world around her. A voracious reader, she was rarely seen without a book in hand, often completing four to five books in a week.

In her retirement years, Bertha expanded her horizons even further, earning her HAM radio operator's license and actively participated in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she took up synchronized swimming in her 70s, competing with other clubs and proving that age was no barrier.

Bertha also loved to travel. She explored both the U.S. and Europe extensively, collecting memories and experiences from countless destinations. Her last great journey was a cruise she took at the age of 96,

At the age of 104, she was the recipient of Twilight Wish where she was able to pet a penguin making her wish come true. When not exploring new horizons, or experiencing new things, Bertha enjoyed solving puzzles, coloring and playing geography at her home in Farmington with her cat, Trouble by her side.

Bertha is survived by her three children: daughter, Barbara Heiligman of Cheshire, CT, son, Richard Komor of Louisville, TN, and daughter, Jean DiDaniele of Accomac,VA. She leaves behind her 5 grandchildren: Kristen Shanley and her husband James of Southington, CT, Kimberly Kelly and her husband Michael of Southington, CT, Karen Heiligman of Bristol, CT, Robert Tharp of Tuckerton, NJ and Amy Dacus of Forked River, NJ. She also leaves behind 4 great-grandchildren: Michael and Annabelle Kelly and Emmalee and Olivia Dacus.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26th from 4-5 P.M. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. Entombment will be at the Sea Pines Memorial Garden in Edgewater, FL on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
