Ashley Robert Martella, 72, of Boynton Beach, Fl., and formerly of Meriden and Southington, CT, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Ashley was born in New York City on November 15, 1950 and was the son of the late Ashley P. and Amelia (Delallo) Martella of Cold Spring Harbor, NY and then Southington, CT.
Ashley had a storied broadcasting career that spanned many decades for 1010 WINS, ABC Radio networks, WCBS, WABC and WOR out of NY and WEEI, in Boston, and was also a Morning News Anchor at WTIC Radio in Hartford and WELI in New Haven. He also hosted a number of cable TV news interviews. Most recently, Ashley was a TV anchor at NewsMax in West Palm Beach. Ashley was an avid Yankees fan who loved going on cruises, singing karaoke, and taking pictures and making videos of his kids and grandkids. He also was a roller coaster enthusiast and enjoyed cooking for family; especially his famous sausage and peppers. Ashley is survived by his two sons, Ashley R. Martella Jr. and his wife Laura of Southington and Justin Martella and his wife Dayna of Bristol, grandchildren Austin and Annabelle of Southington and Giuliana of Bristol. He is also survived by ex-wife and fellow broadcaster Debbie Hanley Martella of Southington and long-time companion and author, Evelyn Gugliotti of Boynton Beach, Fl.
A funeral home service will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Calling hours will be prior to the service starting at 2 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Central Cemetery, Brookfield.
