He was a graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla, and received a Masters Degree in Safety Sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
He worked for INA in Philadelphia before starting his own civil engineering firm, Aegis Corp., in 1975. He belonged to the American Society of Civil of Engineers, the American Society of Safety Engineers, and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
Matt was a communicant for Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. He was a passionate car collector and a motorsports enthusiast.
He was a former member of the Stackpole Elementary Home and School Association, the Southampton Zoning Hearing Board, and was a former football and softball coach for the Southampton Sports Club.
Matt was preceded in death by his father Matthew George, his mother Viola (Sprock), and step mother Hope (Harell)
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judith I. (Pfeiffer), his son Matthew James and his wife Amy of Mount Wolf, PA; daughter Cynthia I. Speckhart and her husband Cecil of Southampton; daughter Kathleen M. of Southampton; granddaughters Madisyn Speckhart and Cassidy Burkart; brother Melvin and his wife Carla of Affton, MO; and sister-in-law Kathy Waites and husband George of Affton, MO.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 22, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 2nd Street Pike & Knowles Ave, Southampton, PA 18966. The families will receive friends from 10:30 AM until the time of Mass.
