Beloved sister, aunt and great-aunt, Enedina Gonzalez Castro was called to be reunited with her parents on Tuesday, April 12th after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 83 years old and was surrounded by many of her loved ones in her final days.
Enedina – Tia Nina - was born to Gabriel Gonzalez and Aurora Gonzalez Castro on August 3, 1938, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. She was 1 of 14 children. Tia Nina worked her whole life to support herself and her parents. She enjoyed talking about living with her older brother Samuel and his wife Rosa, while working at the Palmolive factory along with her younger sister, Cuca. She would share how once a month she was allowed to buy soap at a discount. Every once in a while, they would go to the movies but she would always send money home to help with the family finances. Tia Nina never married but dedicated her life to taking care of her parents, whom she lived with until their deaths, and helped raise her nephew, Rogelio Gonzalez.
Although she never had children of her own, she had many nieces and nephews who considered her a second mother. Tia Nina took care of everyone; family was always first. After her parents passed away, Tia Nina focused on helping her brothers and sisters whenever needed.
Tia Nina was a dedicated Catholic and went to church regularly. She often drove a group of ladies to church and took them to breakfast after services. Her faith was very strong, and she felt at peace after receiving her final sacraments. She trusted that God would guide her and eventually rejoin her with family, including her beloved parents.
Tia Nina is survived by her older brother Gilberto Gonzalez, younger sister Refugio Calderón Gonzalez, her many nieces, nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. Nobody can fill the void of her passing, but we are comforted knowing she will be our angel, continuously watching over us.
The viewing and rosary for Enedina will take place at Funeraria Del Angel (8665 California Avenue, South Gate) starting at 6:00 pm on Monday, April 25, 2022.
The funeral mass will be the next morning at St Helen’s Catholic Church (8912 South Gate Avenue, South Gate) at 9:30 am to be followed by burial at Inglewood Park Cemetery (720 E. Florence Ave, Inglewood). All are welcome to attend.
