BREWSTER — William T. Dowling, 92, of Brewster, formally of Milton, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, after a period of declining health at the Aberjona Nursing Facility in Winchester. He was surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Agnes M. (Conley). Cherished father of William T. Dowling Jr. of Winchester and Falmouth, his wife Roberta, son Christian and his wife Joanna, and their two daughters Brooke and Avery; Susan D. Stewart of Wallingford, Conn. and Brewster, Mass., her husband Richard and their sons Christopher and Matthew; Stephen J. Dowling of Kearsarge, N.H., his wife Catherine and their daughters Miriam and Suzannah and her husband Michael.
Mr. Dowling was born April 18, 1918, son of William T. and Caroline L. (Regan) Dowling. He attended the Roxbury Latin School and graduated in 1940 from the College of the Holy Cross. He worked for Filene's Department Store in Boston and subsequently headed Protection Service Incorporated, a cooperative retail security agency. Mr. Dowling was a passionate "sparky," spending many hours as a volunteer firefighter on Engine Four of the Milton Fire Department. He and Agnes retired in 1976 to their home on Robbins Hill Road, Brewster, where he was an active member of Our Lady of the Cape Parish, chaired the Brewster Finance Committee, and volunteered for many community organizations.
Visiting hours will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St., West Harwich, on Sunday, May 2, 2010, 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Cape Church, Brewster. on Monday, May 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at the Brewster Cemetery, Lower Road, Brewster.
