Born and raised in Brooklyn NY, he is the son of Antonio Vito DeMarco and Giovanna (D’Erasmo) DeMarco from the Bari region of Italy. He is the father of three children, Giovanna DeMarco, Anthony DeMarco, and Anna Maria DeMarco. He is father-in-law to Maria (Carsanaro) DeMarco, spouse of his only son Anthony DeMarco. He is also a proud grandfather to six beautiful grandchildren. Their names are Nicholas Vito DeMarco, Alexis Grace DeMarco, Jessica Rose DeMarco, Eleanora Ward, Alexandra Ward, and Victoria Ward.
Vito, a child of Italian Immigrants, began life’s journey in Brooklyn NY where he resided with his parents and two sisters Maria (DeMarco) Troiano (now deceased) and Roseanne (DeMarco) Esposito. Vito was the middle child. Vito’s parents came to the United States after World War 1 and were soon faced with the decision to plant permanent roots in the United States after WW2 broke out in Europe (their native land).
The American Dream Begins.
Vito, a talented and gifted artist, chose to attend a specialty high school for the arts in Manhattan. He so loved that school, the students, and the city itself. After graduation he continued his creative education at Pratt Institute of Art & Design, also located in Manhattan. Vito would soon be recruited by many companies in the NY area where he would express his unique artistic vision. But it was while living in Brooklyn NY that Vito met his wife Helen. She was also an immigrant living in Brooklyn with relatives and studying to be a dental technician. Helen was visiting from the European country of Greece (her native land). That is how she met Vito. And it was truly a serendipitous moment when they met. As the story goes, their very first encounter was at a bus stop. Vito, upon seeing her breathtaking beauty, insisted that she not take the bus home but rather he would drive her. She politely declined. As fate would have it their paths crossed again and they had their first date at Coney Island. The rest is history and as many of you know, Vito sold his car to buy her a diamond ring.
Their beautiful journey begins.
Vito and Helen married in Brooklyn NY on December 22, 1963. They lived in Queens NY in the early years where Helen birthed their two oldest children Giovanna and Anthony. At that moment in time, Vito found work in Manhattan working as both art director and illustrator for companies such as Vogue Magazine and Romans Department Store. It was there that he found his calling and developed his famous Mad Men style of illustration. As a blooming artist of the 60’s, Vito truly loved the fashion world and all of its colorful eccentricities. A true talent, other companies came calling and soon he was being recruited by a Brockton Massachusetts Retail Giant known as King Size (a big and tall clothing company for men). Vito became the art director for the mens clothing catalogue which was mailed to men all across the country.
This business opportunity would bring Vito and Helen and family to live in Mansfield Massachusetts. It was there that they had their third child Anna Maria. As a family they made many new friends and created great memories. Vito even opened an Art Gallery in town and his wife Helen would manage the gallery and tend to the children while Vito carried on a duel career as both an art director and a fine art painter. It was the 70’s and life was groovy and sweet! As time went by, Vito and Helen would vacation in Dennis, MA on Cape Cod with their children and eventually build a summer home there. After some time they decided to leave Mansfield and move to Dennis, MA where they lived the Cape life with their family.
Vito loved Massachusetts and especially his home on Cape Cod in Dennis, MA where he continued to spend time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. As a family, they also summered and took extended vacations in Helen’s native Greece which holds a special place in his heart. Vito loved traveling to Italy and Greece and in later years enjoyed winters in beautiful sunny Naples Florida.
Vito loved gardening, cooking, real estate, painting and travel. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren often declining weekend invitations for Golf and fishing. He was a devoted family man through and through. It was his true passion.
He was a “Hard Core Type A Classic Old School Brooklyn Guy”. There will never be another one like him. A true Renaissance Man. A painter of sunsets, architecture, and nature. A chef of creative pizzas, calzones, and pasta dishes. He was also an expert barbecue grill master! A true culinary gem of a man.
He was a gardener and lover of animals (Andre & Alexis RIP). Also, He was a real history buff and his knowledge of both American and European history would amaze everyone.
He was one of the most selfless loving giving human beings you could ever know. A true fire sign, his strength, courage, and overall zest for life touched us all. May he Rest In Peace until we meet again!
