Peter was born in Hartford, CT on August 15, 1935 to the late Mary Elizabeth (Fagan) and Joseph Francis O’Loughlin. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia Ann (Willett) and his beloved daughter, Noreen Elizabeth O’Loughlin. Peter is survived by his three sons - Daniel O’Loughlin and his wife Annie of Solana Beach, CA, Joseph O’Loughlin and his wife Janet of Natick, MA and Steven O’Loughlin and his wife Maggie of Shanghai, China. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren - Halsey O’Loughlin of Washington D.C., Patrick, Hayley and Brendan O’Loughlin of Natick MA, Jerry O’Loughlin of Shanghai, China and a great grandson, Evan Sullivan of Natick. The oldest of three siblings, Peter is also survived by his brother David O’Loughlin of Wilmington, N.C; he was predeceased by his brother James (Jim) O’Loughlin.
Pete spent his childhood in South Glastonbury, CT and his teenage years in Hartford, CT. He was a proud graduate of Weaver High School and earned business and computer science degrees from the University of Connecticut and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. A proud veteran, he served abroad in the US Army prior to marrying Ginnie in 1960.
Pete and Ginnie settled and raised their four children in Simsbury, CT. He enjoyed a 30 year career with Travelers Insurance Company and was an active volunteer supporter of the Simsbury youth hockey, baseball and football programs. Following retirement, Pete and Ginnie moved to Cape Cod in 1994 where they continued to pursue their passions of family, music, gardening, baseball and golf.
A deeply spiritual man of absolute faith, Peter was an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury and Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster. To those who knew him, Pete will be remembered for his upbeat attitude and quick humor befitting his Irish ancestry. He was grateful for the opportunities afforded to him through public education and the sacrifices of the generations that preceded his own. He made the most of those opportunities through his innate qualities of temperance, humility, common sense, and grit. Above all, Peter will be remembered by his family as a devoted husband and father who gladly sacrificed himself to provide for his family with unconditional love. He was a man of high character and principle who will be missed by all who loved him.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Cape in Brewster on Wednesday, October 28th at 11:00 am. A formal celebration of Pete’s life will be held in Brewster next summer. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Pete may make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center of Cape Cod in Brewster.
